Montgomery Knee Board Lessens Time and Increases Safety in Stabilizing Well Leg in Arthroscopic Surgery
(March 10, 2010-New Orleans, LA) - Montgomery Knee Board is set up in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2010 Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Over 12,000 physicians including 4,297 international and 1,552 allied health professionals are in attendance.
"The knee board is a device that is so practical it is hard to believe no one else thought of it sooner," said Maureen Kromis, operating room nurse and Montgomery Knee Board exhibit manager. "It dramatically lessens the time to safely stabilize the non-operative knee in arthroscopic surgery. It gives the operating room team more time to focus on the procedure without constantly worrying where the well-leg is during surgery."
Designed by Thomas J. Montgomery, MD for use in his practice, the Montgomery Knee Board is a well-leg holder for use in arthroscopic knee surgery. It is used for positioning of the non-operative leg. Consisting of a piece of flat, 1/2 inch polyethylene with rounded edges, the Montgomery Knee Board is intended for use with a foam pad in order to safely and comfortably immobilize the well-leg. It is held in place by the patient's weight under the pad of the operating table.

The board is wedged between the operating table and the table's cushion. The patient's buttocks stabilize the board, which can then be adjusted in an infinite number of ways to accommodate the varied patient's habitus. The board does not come into contact with the patient and its surface is non-staining, making it easy to clean and disinfect after each use in the operating room. Use of the Montgomery Knee Board gives the operating room staff confidence that the leg will be quickly, comfortably and safely supported throughout the procedure.
Montgomery Knee Board is exhibiting at booth #229 in AAOS Exhibit Hall A.
